Interview Cheat Code By CEO Ashok
Interview is inevitable in any career that isn’t self-employment. In all cases, one has to justify why he or she deserves the spot better than anyone else. For instance, scholarships, jobs, admissions, and most schemes that involve large pools of candidates will always require this process. Even though we cannot make our chances certain, we can prepare to make them more probable.
Based on his experience, Ashok Ramachandran provides a cheat code on how to ace an interview. He is the CEO and President of Schindler India, subsidiary of Schindler Group. This group is a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services. Mr. Ashok manages over 5000 people and has conducted 500+ interviews. Here is what he had to share:
Aside the technical skills test, interviewers usually rely on the following 5 common questions to decide whether you get in or out.
1. Tell me about yourself
Such a question is tough, but simple. You have many characters and experiences that define who you are. All you have to do is to present the ones that align with the purpose of the interview. Therefore, share your journey, lead it to the role you are after, and give a convincing view of why it makes you a better fit for the role.
2. What are your strengths?
This is the part you present a character that is almost perfect for the role. Share what makes you believe you can get through the interview, even when one person is selected. As you give them your qualities, overlap them with the role you are applying for. Don’t talk about any strength you know will contradict with your purpose there. For example, there is no need to add singing as a strength when they are looking for a software developer.
3. What are your weaknesses?
Don’t over-exaggerate your response to make you look cool. The perception-turned-fact is no one is perfect, so if you depict perfection, either you are boastful or you are too dumb to see your weakness. Interviewers only want to know how aware and honest you are. Also, don’t paint your defects too much that they deform the character you present in the interview.
4. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
No one knows exactly what will happen in the next five years. However, your answer can have a lot of implications. This is a chance to shape your presented personality to look more irresistible. Let your response be honest and fairly responsible. Give them a blueprint of how you want your life to look like and the conversation will take care of itself.
5. Why should we hire you?
It is an open door to make your argument before the jury. In order not to miss anything, share how unique you are from the other candidates and what you can bring to the table. In addition, give yourself the high value by stating what you did in previous roles and how they have built you for this very one. Make a case no interviewer can overrule your profile.
