NSMQ 2023 Contest 7
This was a one-eighth battle between Swedru Sec. School, Wesley Grammar School and Tema Methodist SHS . The quest here is to take a look at the Maths/Mathematics questions that were asked. My focus will be on accuracy – how you can answer the questions right. I will dissect them in order of rounds: round one (nsmq fundamentals), nsmq speed race, nsmq problem of the day and nsmq True or False.

Impulse is a vector quantity. It has both magnitude and direction. The magnitude is the product of the force and the time interval over which it acts. The direction of the impulse is the same as the direction of the force applied.

Angular speed is not a vector quantity, but rather a scalar one. It measures the speed at which a body moves around a circular path, but it doesn’t necessarily take into action the direction the body moves.

As tricky as it might sound, true bearing is typically a scalar quantity as it is always denoted relative to the reference (North). It provides information about the direction from one point to another relative to the reference North. Bearings are appropriately expressed as a scalar value without a vector direction.
Conclusion
7 out of 40 contests done? What a feat we have achieved. Gradually, our maths capability is on the rise with time. I’m glad you stayed with me while I went through the maths questions round after round. Just a heads up; for the next two contests, we’ll be reviewing the same question sets because these same sets were used in the contests.
